When I first decided to write a book I only had an image of it in my mind and did not know anything about how am I going to do it. By saying that the first thing I had to do was research! And that was time consuming.
I started writing my book around the end of 2020. I did not know what was my book going to be about. I just took my pen and started writing some of the pieces. Out of nowhere I came up with an idea to make it in 3 parts and process to write according to it. I can not discuss much about the book here as it would become a spoiler for you all. There were times when I thought to give up because it took too long and negative thoughts kept coming on my mind, I thought that there is no perfection in my work, but till when am I going to wait for it? I questioned myself “I had to start at some point so why not now?” and kept going. While writing each poem I edited it myself and had two of my friends who did proofreading. While being in this process I also selected the publisher which was really a big and important task.
Traditional or self-publishing? The main thing was to decide whether to go with traditional or self-publishing. Most of the authors get confused between them. Traditional publishing handles everything including marketing of your book but it takes some time for our manuscript to get in notice where as in self-publishing everything is on us. As it was my first book I wanted to experience every step of making it so I decided to go with self-publishing. But as I did not know much about the progress I decided to go with a self-publishing company.
Self-publishing company I did a lot of search of good publishers, who provide all the needs. There were many top companies but they went overboard with the prices and the reviews were not that good as well. So I ended up with Evincepub because I heard a lot about their friendly nature which would be good for the beginners, I contacted some of the authors who’ve worked with them And also read their reviews on different platforms. Their packages were affordable and had many good services.
So, after completion of my book I contacted them and I started the process after couple of months, we went according to the schedule that was provided by the publisher.
It was fun making my debut book. It was informative, and a major blessing in my life. And I definitely loved the way it came out, I was really excited for everyone to see it. A lot of my friends and family members keep asking me how my book is going, it went out well, way better than I expected and I’m overwhelmed by the love and support I’ve received.
The most important thing is what I learnt through this journey. It has certainly catapulted me to another level. I’ve made new author-friends and taken advantage of networking and learning opportunities for authors.
Hope this helps you in some way of not giving up your dreams even if takes quite long or if it seems like you’re rushing, and hope this also be helpful for budding authors.
All the links of my book are mentioned on my website. Comment down your thoughts on this blog and something that you’re working on for your future.
